Talk About Motivation

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

Wanting to get skinny for fashion is no new ambition for many women; the motivating factor for slimming down is usually either for the clothes or for the men. Well hot darn, Asos has provided PRIME fashion reasons to get down all tiny and tight. I was browsing through the site randomly and stumbled upon their petite section which in itself is a total fashion coup for me because at 5’1, many clothing items (such as much coveted maxi dresses) would never fit my height because they were never INTENDED for my height. So how pleased was I to see that the petite line is for women 5’3 and under that includes maxi dresses in the bunch??? Someone please catch me, I think I’m swooning.

Everything on that site was OMG reaction after OMG reaction, feast your eyes on these must-get-in-shape-for dresses:

And now for the ULTIMATE in sexy.  If this dress isn’t motivation to get my ass in gear so that I can be someone’s luscious arm/eye candy, then I don’t know what is.

What are some clothing items that you are just LUSTING after but can’t have for whatever reason?  Have any motivation pieces set to the side as an end goal (teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini perhaps)?

Pounds Gone…Pants Too??

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

As many of you know, I’ve been on a weight loss mission, trying to get down to a size 4 or 6, whatever looks right on my frame.  Well, so far about 20 lbs down since June 7th (go me!) and still working at many more being dropped.  BUT there’s an unfortunate side effect….what is that you ask?

MY CLOTHES ARE ALL FALLING OFF!!  What’s a girl to do when she’s trying to run to the train and must juggle a large laptop laden MJ tote bag, a handbag, in addition to now pulling up sagging pants?  I swear, any moment now I’ll have a visit from this guy:

Don’t get me wrong, clothes being too big is a great sign of accomplishment.  I could have WAY worse things to gripe about, right?  But it’s no fun to not be able to wear any of my CURRENT clothes and know that I can’t buy new pants because it wouldn’t make a lick of sense if I’m still losing weight, which would result in having to  then pull THOSE up in a couple of weeks as they make their descent to the ground.  Waste of money, and goodness knows times aren’t ripe for that.

Fear not, there is a solution for those with steadily slimming waistlines.  Leggings/jeggings, long tops, and dresses will be this girl’s best friend in the upcoming weeks.  Leggings mold to the body and will not try to embarrass me with a  pantsing in the middle of Michigan Avenue (can you IMAGINE the mortification?  Oprah would kick me out of Chicago for that one).  Flowy dresses can be comfortable and made more structural with the right belt.  A cute tunic or sweater dress over the leggings will prove to be a staple.  With those options, the fall wardrobe should be functional yet cute!

What are some of your fall must have items?    If you’ve gone through any significant weight loss, what were your transitioning clothing solutions?

Workouts and Seeing Progress

SW: 186 NW: 178

Down 14 pounds since I first started trying to lose weight on June 7th and 8 lbs down since taking the phentermine pills and starting the weight loss journey via the blog here on June 12th.   Very happy about that, as you can imagine 🙂  14 down, about 55 more to go, lol!

I’ve been taking the phentermine every morning and because of that my appetite has been suppressed. What has become an issue is making sure to eat enough calories because I guess a side effect of the pills is that I never really have a specific taste for anything anymore and by the time I figure out what I want to eat sometimes I just DON’T eat because I’m no longer hungry.  Perhaps creating an eating schedule would be ideal so that it’s something to stick to and makes sure that I get at least 1200 calories.  Something to ponder!

The workout of choice today was 40 minutes on the elliptical and then lots of jump rope fun!  Jumping rope is considered one of the best cardio workouts that can be done because it works on toning the legs, arms, butt, and it gets the heart pumping (hence it being CARDIO 😛 )  so try to incorporate that in any future workouts!  Best to jump rope every other day, so that your muscles can relax in between days, do something more low key to the muscles such as the elliptical on in between days.  I watched this video for jumping rope techniques:

After the jump rope and elliptical, I utilized the techniques from my Hip Hop Abs: Hips, Buns, and Thighs workout dvd for the booty exercises at the end of the video.  That workout is intense for the booty, will tone it up but beware, your butt WILL be sore!  Lol, you definitely feel the burn and I love it, watch that section here:

The only downside to working out and losing weight is the problem of clothes not fitting.  New things that I just bought a month ago no longer fit because my waist has gone down 2 inches since I  bought them.   Tailoring?  I guess it’s much easier to tailor things down than to have to let out, lol, so no complaining!  And of course, that can mean shopping 😉

Updates and Reviews

Starting Weight: 186

Now Weight: 184

I have a gym setup in my house that includes weights, an elliptical, an ab lounger, fitness quality jump rope, and dvds such as hip hop abs and celebrity bootcamp, so those will be the main things that I utilize for workouts and mention on the blog.  Since dedicating to getting healthier on Saturday, I used the elliptical for 30 mins and the ab lounger for many repetitions , all while watching Law & Order to distract me from the fact that I was doing a dreaded workout 😛  I find that music is cool to work out to, but watching tv DEFINITELY makes the time go by much more quickly.  Which do you prefer, music, television, reading, silent meditation,  etc while working out?

A good resource that I’ve come across for tracking your progress while losing weight, getting healthy  is the website http://sparkpeople.com/ It tracks calories, progress, fitness, and gives good tips so I would highly recommend it.  Just remember to keep it updated!

On to beauty and hair product reviews 😀  I know that’s what you want!

Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme - Hand Cream - Burt's Bees

I have found the key to satiny soft hands!   Burt’s Bees Almond Milk beeswax hand creme is pure heaven because it smells good, feels like lush creamy goodness, AND garners awesome results.  My hands take a beating in the winter because of the harsh cold winds of Chicago, so it’s nice to pamper them with something that leaves the skin feeling healthy and moisturized.  Wish that I’d had this for the winter!  A+ for this product all of the way.  I purchased mine while at the Cracker Barrel waiting to eat, but it can be found online or anywhere that Burt’s Bee’s products are sold such as Walgreens.

Since my hands are looking and feeling so much better, I’ve been on QUITE the nail polish kick, changing the color practically every other day.  Part of that changing so often is because of my general restlessness with one look, but another is the annoying fact that so many polishes chip if you happen to even LOOK at your nails the wrong way.  So annoying, right ladies?  Well, Sally Hansen has created a godsend for those of us who may want a nail look to last for more than half an hour.  Their new Complete Salon Manicure really does have the effect of a base coat, rich polish, and top coat in one.  This stuff LASTS!  So far I’ve purchased in Choco-latte and Hidden Treasure.  Hidden Treasure is fun because it’s clear with flecks of grey, pink, gold depending on how you look at it and works wonders when used as a top coat over something else.  When I went to Jamaica last week, I put on a cream colored base coat with Hidden Treasure on top and it lasted the whole trip of 4 days and beach fun.   Definite A+ on this line of products as well and I WILL be getting many more of the colors which can be seen here: http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?product=385

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish, Choco-Latte

Remember when I posted about starting to take biotin to help my hair continue to grow?  Well dear readers, I am one of those people who had the unfortunate side effect that they say can happen, which is broken out skin 😦  I’ve curtailed my usage of the supplement because it has caused a massive slew of bumps along my jawline and on my cheeks.  NOT a good look, especially when my hair has been healthy anyway and not really needing the extra help.   So I just wanted to give the update that Biotin is not the route for me, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t work for you because different bodies react differently to it 🙂

Now about this huge head of hair I am growing.  My beloved Qhemet’s Amla and Olive heavy cream is running low, so of course I had to go to the health foods store and replace it.  While there, I happened to notice Qhemet’s Olive and Honey Hair Balm and a light bulb went off.  I’d spoken “here” about wanting to incorporate honey into my summer program because honey is a humectant and therefore takes moisture from the air and imparts it into the hair!  So when I saw that, I bypassed the heavy cream which may be a bit much for the summer humidity and grabbed up the olive/honey balm.   Can I just say, this stuff is divine?  PARTY time, I LOVE Qhemet’s 😀  Hair is soft and pretty and smells nice.  So far I’ve just added some to dry hair that was in an old twist out, but when I was my hair tomorrow, I will use it out of the shower for a wash and go and see how that works and to do some two strand twists.  I have high hopes on it’s moisture potential!  😀

Gotta Look Good For LA

In fashion news, I am REALLY digging Jessica Simpson’s shoes/handbag lines!  I bought the most fab purse from her called the Limelight in color pine and it looks like it cost no less than $300.  It’s so luxe, I may have to rock that purse tonight to dinner with my girly Ashley.

it’s like this, but a deep teal color that is so chic for fall/winter and you know that jewel tones are in.

My daddy bought me a new ring/necklace set from Swarvoski that I wanted for months now.  It was a surprise and I am so in love with it and appreciative that he got it from me.  The thing is MAJOR blingage for my Hollywood life.

it’s called the Chic ring, and I must agree!  The necklace is small and has a couple of gems so as not to compete or overpower.  Ahh, I love it!  What do you think?
