Driving Me Plum Crazy

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

Well, more violet actually.  I am in LOVE with the lipstick in this photo and have been on the hunt for a couple of days for a compatible shade since I can’t read what the exact lipstick is:

Is that not just DIVINE?  It’s so cool and totally different from the normal light pink that I see the average lady walking around with.  For my own sanity, I MUST have some gorgeous violet lips.  It is my favorite color anyway, may as well partake!

To create the look, I’ve purchased the following from Sephora and will review them when they arrive:

-Make Up For Ever’s new line of lipstick called Rouge Artist Intense in color #14 (Pearly Dark Violet)

-Sephora Collection Lip Attitude in the color Audacious Violet 11

Hopefully one of these two will do the job so that I can regain my wits!  Must have, must try, so much want! Lol

Is there a makeup look or product that just drove you wild, made it so that you just HAD to have it?  Dreamed about it, blogged about it, dare I say cried about it?  What was it?  Did you ever get it?

Right now there are awesome things on sale for 75% off at Sephora! So go ahead and check it out because they may have that beauty find to help you create that look you’ve been lusting after 😀

Bourgie Buys

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

So in a previous post you guys commented and tweeted about your favorite low-cost yet effective drugstore finds.  This time around, with noses in the air, let’s get bourgie!  By that I mean, what are your snobby must have purchases, the designer skincare/makeup/hair products that you REFUSE to deviate to a lower cost item for?

For me, it’s perfumes.  I may have a body splash every now and again from Bath and Body Works, but best believe that the perfume game is on and proper 🙂  When I’m feeling happy and the sun is shining, I’ll break out with DKNY Red Delicious (smells of ripe sweet red apples, as you’d imagine by looking at it) or maybe Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue (clean fragrance with a touch of tartness). To exude quiet sophistication and femininity, I adore Prada Infusion d’Iris (a soft, light floral that begs to be worn on Park Avenue as a lady who lunches).   For pure sex appeal and feeling undeniably ravishing, I am a fiend for Dior Addict, truly addicted.  I was hipped to that scent by my girl JayBendy and have been hooked since first sniff.  Those are a couple of the many perfumes loitering my vanity.

So do tell, what are your snobby buys?  What MUST be designer, must be high end, MUST be top notch?  OR what are some high end items that you are just dying to have?  We’re waiting to hear, darling.

The Signature Piece

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

There is beauty in being remembered for a certain quality, such as having a signature fragrance that entices the senses and instantly brings you to mind when someone smells the aroma.  A signature could also be something like always wearing a scarf as an accent piece to an outfit, a hair color choice that becomes synonymous with you (platinum blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe), a penchant for a certain color (always have something red on) a certain style of dress (chic pencil skirts a staple in your wardrobe), maybe some makeup look that you are known for.

My signature pieces have changed over the years but have included Gucci Envy Me as a signature fragrance for a while and at another point one big ring like my swarovski Chic ring.

The question is do you have a signature piece, something that instantly makes others think of you when they see it?  A signature fragrance, a signature style, etc….please share in the comments!  I’m curious as to what makes you feel special when you put it on 🙂

You Stay Classy, M.A.C. and Rodarte

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]
The beauty blogosphere is all abuzz with anger over the new collection that MAC cosmetics. has created with fashion line Rodarte, and for good reason.  Truly, they have both taken the fashion world’s love of shock value to absolutely tasteless low depths.

Rodarte created a fall line inspired by the “ethereal landscape” they witnessed on a roadtrip in Texas, wanting to give ode to the border town that is Ciudad Juarez.  Fine, you took a nice trip and found some inspiration; nothing bad about that, surely?  Except…Juarez is known as the Murder Capital of the World, a title pumped up by the fact that more than 5,000 women have been kidnapped, raped, and killed as they make their way to work at the factories for the right to earn the oh so posh wage of roughly $4 a week.  These “femicides”, to add insult to injury, are largely going unpunished and barely causing a bit of concern from the authorities and government.  NOW, on top of everything, a fashion line and a beauty powerhouse decide that the misery and anguish of these poor women would make a FABULOUSLY CHIC idea for a clothing line and coordinating lipstick….oh wait, fashion wasn’t your first thought when you just read those facts about the devastating lives those women lead?  DISGUSTING

“But wait, Socialite Dreams, maybe they are doing this to raise awareness!  The funds could help out the citizens there.”  Dear reader, if you thought that, then you are CLEARLY light years above Rodarte or M.A.C. when it comes to basic humanity and ethics.  Only now that there has been controversy sparked over the lines has there been ANY thought to give “a portion” of the proceeds towards the atrocious crimes being committed there.  That’s right, a portion.  Even Viva Glam has ALL of it’s proceeds given to AIDS research, but maybe that’s because it happens to affect rich white people as well.  Mexican women being tortured, raped, kidnapped, mutilated, murdered?  PFFT, that’d make a hauntingly romantic idea for a line of makeup with products such as “Sleepless” “Ghost Town” “Juarez” in tribute to the women drifting to work like sleepwalkers so that they can be raped and killed along the way to their $4 paycheck.  Would make me a bit sleepless too, I’d imagine.  Oh, did I mention that the actual makeup looks like it is streaked in blood? No? Forgot to mention that macabre fact?  My bad.

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you.  Someone (well a bunch of someones honestly) thought that’d be a good idea.  So we have a deadly-for-women city that inspired some other freaking clueless privileged women into creating a fall fashion line that then paired them up with a beauty powerhouse that caters to women that in turn decided to create a mockery of their suffering.  Honestly, if they would NOT have created a “Special Edition 9/11 collection” with gorgeous colors like “Bodies on Fire” red lipstick, “Smoke Inhalation” grey eyeshadow, etc then they shouldn’t make a line about the suffering of these women.  Oh, I’m sorry, they are just some Mexican women, not white citizens of America or Europe, clearly don’t count as PEOPLE with loved ones who miss them.  Nope, just an inspiration for some makeup colors!  They were oh so INSPIRED by what they saw, but not INSPIRED enough to help by actually making the collection in order to raise awareness and money for the women of Juarez…mmkay!  You stay classy, M.A.C. and Rodarte.

I can’t even….There’s so much wrong with this, I just can’t…..if you’d like more information, please check out these other blogs who laid out the facts much more eloquently than I can even begin to do:

Themed Makeup Looks

Happy 4th of July!  Today is the day for family fun, backyard barbeques, playing in the sprinklers and (my personal favorite) FIREWORKS!!

For holidays, I like to have my outfit and makeup coordinate with the known colors for that day and today will be no different 😛  It’s fun to do, so reppin’ the good ole red, white, and blue will be on the agenda!  Have you ever done a themed holiday look?  Email me some looks at socialitedreams@gmail.com and I’ll post pics of it 😀   I don’t necessarily mean a cheesy grandma christmas sweater with little elves and reindeer on it, more like building a color story to go with the day.  Bring em on!

Make Up For Ever lipstick Blue Red 205, Sephora white eyeshadow, and navy blue eyeliner (even though it looks more navy in person, kind of black looking in photos).  Go America!

Creamy Lips

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]
The hunt was on for a perfect creamy beige lipstick, after being inspired by my friend and fellow blogger at http://naturaltaketwo.wordpress.com/ when she posted this photo:

I’d never been able to find a great color that would work on me because most seemed to just look ashy and being the twin of crackhead Tyrone Biggums was NOT a goal of mine.

Mac was my first stop because I’d seen many beautiful looking colors on their website for lipsticks that may be able to fit the bill.   Problem was, I couldn’t just go ordering any ole thing off of the website without trying it on, expecting to NOT have the same problem of ashy looking lips that I’d been previously having.  Why is it that things in person never look like they do in photos/online?  Colors that I’d written down the names of turned out to be the totally wrong choice once I was at the Mac counter, so it’s certainly a good thing that I tried it on first instead of blindly ordering and hoping!

After trying on no less than 15 lipsticks/cremes/lipglasses I came across a smooth and rich duo that fit my bill perfectly!  Welcome to my makeup family, Mac Fresh Brew and Viva Glam V lipglass!

Here’s photos with it on:

It’s rich and luscious on the lips, feels good because it’s a part of their lustre line. The lipglass has a good shine, which I can appreciate.  What I really love is that because it’s part of the Viva Glam line, then the full proceeds go to Aids research/support via the http://www.macaidsfund.org/ !!!  Giving back and getting glam, win win!

The rest of the makeup is my Big Girl Cosmetic’s dual foundation compact in #45 , Cover Girl Lash Blast for the mascara, Revlon brow enhancer for the eyebrows (loooooving this stuff!  it makes perfectly filled in, neat eyebrows a reality), and Jordana Easy liner in seagreen on the lower lash line.

Loving Beyonce’s makeup and nude lip here:

By the way, hair is getting big 😀  Check out the fierceness:

“Makeup” for lost time

Bonjour, bonjour!  Today I wanted to post some makeup looks that I’ve done the past couple of days.  Mainly a visual post and I’ll tell what makeup was used 🙂

This look called for Make Up For Ever foundation in Cognac, L’oreal H.I.P. compact duo in Riotous which is the bright lime on the inner corners of the eye and the dark green over the whole lid.  Next, L’oreal compact duo in Showy is the bright teal in the middle of the lid.  Just a clear gloss on the lips 🙂

This was a fun bright look that I did to welcome in the warm weather 😀  NYX in Chick (a lemony type yellow) was used on the whole lid, L’oreal compact Showy is the teal blue on the lid, the purple is Mac Nocturnelle, and Smashbox in Green Room is on the outer corner.  The blush is Revlon Berry Daring from the Golden Affair line, and the lipgloss is Bling Diva by Big Girl Cosmetics.

Revlon Colorstay Brow Enhancer in Blackened Brown/Taupe was used on the brows to make them filled in and crisp, the eyeshadow is all Nars.  I had it done at sephora by a lovely sales associate, so I’m not sure what colors they used because I said have fun with it and surprise me.  I should have written it all down because I really enjoy the eye look that they created.  I’m sorry that I’m useless with the product names 😦

Face is bumpy because I realized that the Make Up For Ever foundation was too thick for me apparently or something, because it clogs my pores and makes me bumpy.  Which is sad, because it gives me a flawless complexion in photos colorwise, but that’s a moot point if it makes me an acne ridden mess!  So I’ve replaced it with foundation from Big Girl Cosmetics and so far it works well and provides me with a good complexion.  Will post makeup looks with it when I do some.  As for the eyes, Smashbox in Champagne was put all over the lids, Urban Decay in Heat is the red color, and the black from the L’oreal dual compact Dashing was used in the outer corners.  Stila eye kajal liner in black was put in the waterline and across upper lashes and the look was finished with a coating of Diorshow mascara.  The blush is Victoria’s Secret blush in Love Life which is a peachy pink natural flush.

Overall I would recommend Make Up For Ever foundation if your skin isn’t too sensitive and acne prone, it provides great coverage and is amazing if you plan on being photographed lots 🙂  Diorshow mascara is now a staple, Big Girl Cosmetics lip gloss is a definite favorite because it has vitamins A and E and is not sticky (i hate those gloopy lines that some glosses give when you open your mouth, YUCK! this doesn’t do that, so i love it and suggest), L’oreal H.I.P. duos are a staple as well because they are richly pigmented and CHEAP 😀  Usually buy one get one free or half off, so look for those deals at CVS or Walgreens.

Well those were some makeup looks 🙂  Hope that you enjoyed and try out some fun creations yourself!  Summer is the time for bright fun, get out there and experiment.
