Pink Bronzed Makeup

*edit: We have a new home!  www.socialitedreams.com

While getting youtube inspiration for the Kim Kardashian look, I remembered to check out The Makeup Republic because she has such awesome makeup tutorials.  On her front page, she had a BEAUTIFUL smoky pink look that I just HAD to try.

I’m very happy with the results!  It was ultra simple to do and received lots of compliments.  I think that it is a pretty way to amp up a neutral look, don’t you?  It could be worn to work, a weekend lunch, a date, anywhere!  Very feminine and girly.  What is great about it is if a darker burgundy is added to the crease and some black liner added, it can transition to a more nighttime, intense look!  Very versatile.

This is the video that gave the tutorial:

Here are the products that I used for it:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Revlon PhotoReady foundation in 011 Cappucino

-Revlon Colorstay Brow Enhancer in Blackened Brown/Taupe

-Smashbox Eyeshadow in Champagne

-MAC Expensive Pink, Mulch

-MAC Viva Glam V Lipglass

-Lancome Definicils Mascara in Black – I won this in a giveaway that the lovely Mischo Beauty hosted on her blog.  This mascara makes lashes pretty and inky shiny black, which I can really appreciate.  It separates nicely and gives some hold without making them too stiff.  The small brush ensures that you can get every lash!  I’d say that this is a good mascara for use during the day and something heavier should be used for nighttime looks.

I was going to work and it was early morning, so I didn’t make it as smoky as she did nor use as much heavy liner.

You Stay Classy, M.A.C. and Rodarte

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]
The beauty blogosphere is all abuzz with anger over the new collection that MAC cosmetics. has created with fashion line Rodarte, and for good reason.  Truly, they have both taken the fashion world’s love of shock value to absolutely tasteless low depths.

Rodarte created a fall line inspired by the “ethereal landscape” they witnessed on a roadtrip in Texas, wanting to give ode to the border town that is Ciudad Juarez.  Fine, you took a nice trip and found some inspiration; nothing bad about that, surely?  Except…Juarez is known as the Murder Capital of the World, a title pumped up by the fact that more than 5,000 women have been kidnapped, raped, and killed as they make their way to work at the factories for the right to earn the oh so posh wage of roughly $4 a week.  These “femicides”, to add insult to injury, are largely going unpunished and barely causing a bit of concern from the authorities and government.  NOW, on top of everything, a fashion line and a beauty powerhouse decide that the misery and anguish of these poor women would make a FABULOUSLY CHIC idea for a clothing line and coordinating lipstick….oh wait, fashion wasn’t your first thought when you just read those facts about the devastating lives those women lead?  DISGUSTING

“But wait, Socialite Dreams, maybe they are doing this to raise awareness!  The funds could help out the citizens there.”  Dear reader, if you thought that, then you are CLEARLY light years above Rodarte or M.A.C. when it comes to basic humanity and ethics.  Only now that there has been controversy sparked over the lines has there been ANY thought to give “a portion” of the proceeds towards the atrocious crimes being committed there.  That’s right, a portion.  Even Viva Glam has ALL of it’s proceeds given to AIDS research, but maybe that’s because it happens to affect rich white people as well.  Mexican women being tortured, raped, kidnapped, mutilated, murdered?  PFFT, that’d make a hauntingly romantic idea for a line of makeup with products such as “Sleepless” “Ghost Town” “Juarez” in tribute to the women drifting to work like sleepwalkers so that they can be raped and killed along the way to their $4 paycheck.  Would make me a bit sleepless too, I’d imagine.  Oh, did I mention that the actual makeup looks like it is streaked in blood? No? Forgot to mention that macabre fact?  My bad.

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you.  Someone (well a bunch of someones honestly) thought that’d be a good idea.  So we have a deadly-for-women city that inspired some other freaking clueless privileged women into creating a fall fashion line that then paired them up with a beauty powerhouse that caters to women that in turn decided to create a mockery of their suffering.  Honestly, if they would NOT have created a “Special Edition 9/11 collection” with gorgeous colors like “Bodies on Fire” red lipstick, “Smoke Inhalation” grey eyeshadow, etc then they shouldn’t make a line about the suffering of these women.  Oh, I’m sorry, they are just some Mexican women, not white citizens of America or Europe, clearly don’t count as PEOPLE with loved ones who miss them.  Nope, just an inspiration for some makeup colors!  They were oh so INSPIRED by what they saw, but not INSPIRED enough to help by actually making the collection in order to raise awareness and money for the women of Juarez…mmkay!  You stay classy, M.A.C. and Rodarte.

I can’t even….There’s so much wrong with this, I just can’t…..if you’d like more information, please check out these other blogs who laid out the facts much more eloquently than I can even begin to do:

Don’t Believe the Hype

This post is inspired by Afrobella’s post concerning the hype around Carol’s Daughter products. We all have favorite products, often times purchased because we heard our favorite celebrity has it or know bloggers who rave about it, or the company just has a strong following *cough* MAC *cough*.

Then, once purchased, even if it doesn’t live up to what it should, we often overlook it because we have it so ingrained that it works! Some products that I used to buy, just because I convinced myself that they worked fabulously, are MAC lipglosses…They can be quite sticky and annoying, but just because they were my first introduction to something other than drugstore makeup, I stuck to them for years without even trying other brands. Then, there’s the Great Lash by Maybelline that always wins as consumer choice and makeup artists rave about it, etc etc. That stuff is WHACK. I mean, it’s nothing special, nothing to win accolades. I like the pink and green packaging, but that product is #1 in my book as having completely benefitted from WAY too much hype.

What are some of the products that you think have succeeded from too much hype? What are some that you brainwashed yourself into thinking was awesome, even with all signs pointing to “Oh hell no!”?

Needed Tools of the Trade

What are some beauty must haves you want for this summer? I want to rehaul all of my makeup, I really do. Not that I don’t like my stuff, just that I want to buy more things and wherever would I put it? Lol. And I need the right tools to boost perfect skin and perfect makeup application..so let’s do it

To start, I need a fab makeup case:

this thing should house my stuff and keep it organized. And it’s a cool metallic pink, fine by me!

I’m practically chomping at the bit to have this Clarisonic skincare brush set. Not only is it supposed to make skin tremendously improved, the proceeds from the pink set goes towards Breast Cancer Awareness. I can haz please?? Does anyone have one? I’d love to know opinions on it and the cleansers that come with it or what you’ve found to be the best cleansers to use with it. It can be bought at Sephora.

Anyone who loves makeup needs a good kit of brushes. I could use a new brush set and this one looks pretty cool. (everything in this post is pink…i did NOT try to do that, lol)

This Daisy by Marc Jacobs kit would be awesome too. Both would be handy additions to any girls repertoire. Includes a powder brush, blush brush, eyeshadow brush, brow brush and smudge brush.

This MAC 239 Brush was recommended as one of the best brushes to use for eyeshadow application and blending by Temptalia in her “how-to” post on eye makeup application. She always does a beautiful job, so I may have to check that brush out! Anyone have it? What do you think of it?

Classy Lunch for Two

Went to Chicago’s The Signature Room for a classy lunch with my best friend Kennedy today. Yum yum! I love the food offerings of Chicago, always something fabulous to try. We had steak, baked potatoes, vegetable medley and desserts. I tried a gooey molten chocolate cake (jealous? I would be!) and Kennedy had carrot cake with candied walnuts and caramel raisin sauce.

I wanted to get dolled up, and I’m going to show my look for today:

Stila slate all over lids, MAC Nocturnelle lower lid and middle of upper lids, and MAC Deep Truth on the corners. MAC carbon liner on bottom lash line and Too Faced Lash Injection on lashes

summer in Chicago

the lazy days of summer are in full effect and I am loving it. New brilliant shade of lipstick from MAC called Girl About Town, which will be my staple. It’s like a rich fuschia raspberry, and makes my lips wonderfully kissable! I loves it, check it out next time that you hit up a MAC counter or the online store.

Beyonce in \beyonce with “Girl About Town” lipstick..i don’t use gloss on top of it, I’m not trying to have ultra-glow-in-the-dark lips, but that’s the color

Went to the taste of Chicago for the first time in like 3 years. I get tired of the crowd and this year was no different (granted, we always go on the 3rd, which is the BUSIEST day there) The watermelon at the Dominicks counter was to die for, it was so sweet and delish. That made the whole day worth it!

Bought cute new clothes at Forever 21, you all should check out the sales! Loads of comfy, stylish summer dresses. I plan on building my whole wardrobe this summer with dresses because they are so easy. Throw on, it’s a done deal!

forever21 dress got this dress in green and purple, for $13.50! Also scored a divine sweater at Filene’s Basement that was originally $108 and I got it for $15 and it fits like a dream! I never even go in that store, but it must have been meant to be because it was the only one open. What a stroke of luck!!

Happy shopping, girls!

All Things Beautiful

I’m at my happiest when I am standing at a makeup counter, perusing the assorted products and knowing that with a couple swipes of said products, I can be transformed.

There is no better feeling than being dolled up and feeling GORGEOUS. With that said, here are some of my favorite beauty products that help lead towards that feeling of ultimate confidence for me:

All things Beautiful

1. Too Faced Magic Wand Illuminating foundation. This stuff blends well, disappears into my skin, and leaves me with an flawless skin that does not show I have on foundation. Woot Woot!

2. This year, I’m new to blushes and I could kick myself for not tapping into their glowy goodness years ago. I love the warm light that Nars’ Taj Mahal gives me as well as the everday look of MAC Format. MAC Breadth of Plum is cool for something different.

3. Too Faced Lash Injection works AWESOME wonders on my lashes. They look thick and black by the time I am done, which is definitely a plush. Almost look like false lashes with enough coats!

4. Murad Pure skin supplement. While this is not a makeup product, it contributes greatly to glowing, healthy skin. I’ve always been prone to breakouts and this stuff is one of the only things that has helped me to clear up.

Some beauty icons of mine when it comes to makeup are:

1. Pat Mcgrath. This lady can work magic with a product…sweet goodness, she transforms people like no other with her intricate makeup looks. I worship her!

2. Beyonce’s makeup. She works different colors and makeup looks, so I tip my hat off to her. Nothing is more boring to me than someone who wears the “natural” look EVERY FRIGGING DAY

3. Eve’s makeup. Miss lady is not at all afraid to work the bright and bold looks. I love her style!

4.Cleopatra. This original was a trendsetter. I mean really, do I have to say why she is an icon? loves it!

New look

This weekend I was bored with my look so I went out and bought my first wig 😀  Looks really good; I want to go get more….cute bobs, curls, different colors, etc.

Also felt like looking pretty today, with my new hair and all, so I did my makeup very nicely….I’ll see if this picture shows well…MAC Firespot in the inner corners, L’oreal HIP collection duo in Showy on the rest of the eye

Yikes, excuse the eyebrows! lol…been trying to grow them out thicker so that they can be shaped how they used to be before incompetent waxers chopped them up….don’t mind my little furry caterpillars 😉
