Friend Friday

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

Modly Chic has come up with the great idea of having “Friend Friday” so that any bloggers who want to participate can join in discussions with each other and answer the same questions to connect with one another and interact while sharing views on sometimes light sometimes heavy topics such as blogger jealousy, nails, blogger privacy.  This is my first time participating but it will be a weekly blog activity.  The topic this week: Fall Fashions (readers, please answer the questions in the comment section, I’d love to see what your responses are!)

1. What new fashion trend are you looking forward to sporting this fall?

I’m seeing LOTS of fur and want to do that trend very much so.  I’ve always had a love affair for fur, faux or not, and I need to add some to my closet this upcoming season FINALLY.  To do that, the jacket that I talked about previously must become mine!  It’s perfect for me!

Vila Faux Fur Coat $101.10

2. Which item in your closet is most likely to be your go-to transition piece?

Jeggings, definitely!  They are snug, cute, and able to go from summer to fall with ease.  Just throw a sweater dress or warmer type tunic with a belt over it, voila, fall!

3. What item from last year are you looking forward to reinventing this fall?
Hmm, good question….there isn’t a specific item that I’m looking forward to pulling out and making it work this season. I want to look forward to new stuff, lol. Hope to lose 20 more pounds and that will require new clothes!

4. What is your favorite part about this time of the year?

The fact that it’s still warm, but not HOT…cooler but not COLD and no snow.  Can wear boots, sweaters, cool jackets.  Oh I love it all!  The changing leaves with all of their glorious colors are definitely my FAVORITE part of Fall.

5. Will you be attending any fashion events this fall?

Hmm, not that I know of yet.  BUT just realized that I will be in New York during the exact time of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week soooooo Laura of So Far, So Chic and I need to figure out some shows to go to!

So what say you??  What are some fall trends that you are looking forward to?  Any item in your closet already that you can’t wait to remix?

Gotta be FIERCE

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

The featured blogger today is M. Mcdermott of http://fiercebeautyandfashion.wordpress.com. Interested in being featured as well? Check here for more information.

1. Who’s your celebrity inspiration for hair?  Makeup?  Fashion style? (can be different answers for each)
As crazy as it sounds, my celebrity inspiration for hair right now is Niki Minaj.  I love the fact that she takes risks with her hair (though not all of them are good! LOL)!  I sometimes think of my hair as an accessory too and she definitely has fun with hers!  For makeup, I look up to Queen Latifah because her looks are always effortless and flawless!  Fashion is tricky because I take inspiration for all celebs, as long as it fits me and my personality.

2. What 3 makeup items can’t you live without?
My Mary Kay Liquid foundation is definitely one of them.  It has been the only foundation to date that gives me the sheer coverage I need.  Another one would have to be my Avon Extra Lasting lip gloss in Constant Coral.  I love the color and it does last most of the day.  My third item is definitely my Too Faced Full Frontal eyeshadow.  It’s a brown color with a little shimmer and it always brings out my eyes for a great natural look.

3. How would you describe your style?
My style is definitely accessory driven!  I sometimes base my whole outfit on a particular accessory I want to wear!  Though I’ve been a tomboy most of my life and will still rock my jeans and Reeboks when the feeling moves me, I can be a girly girl too with cute dresses and bold colored tops.  Regardless of what I wear though, it has to be comfortable!

4. Do you have a signature look or item that you are known for?
My funky accessories, especially my earrings!  My family and friends know how much of a fanatic I am when it comes to super huge earrings! I have hoops you can put your hand through! My fashion jewelry is currently overflowing out of a two section jewelry box and shoe box!  It’s so addictive!

5. What’s your favorite makeup trend of all time? favorite fashion look?
My favorite makeup trend is the smoky eye because anyone can rock that and there are so many different ways to achieve the look.  My favorite fashion look is denim!   Jeans have and forever will be the most versatile piece of clothing to me and will never go out of style!

6. What upcoming fashion and beauty things are you most looking forward to for fall?

I’m looking forward to the shoes most of all!  I love boots and though I live in Florida and can’t rock the thigh highs like I want to, I can still get some ankle boots that are cute an still hot weather friendly!  I’m also ready to try my hand at the sequins trend!  I love the new designs coming out and would be a great way to amp up my wardrobe.

7. What drew you to blogging?  What blogs inspire you?
I actually started blogging when I entered a contest on Yahoo! Shine to be a Beauty Guru last year. I wanted to get back to my writing after my original life plan didn’t pan out and grabbed the opportunity.  Once I won that, I realized I can do this beauty blogging thing and it took off so fast, I’m just now catching up to everything!  So many blogs inspire me but to name of few of the ones I’m truly digging are Where Did U Get That (the photography and outfits are AMAZING!), grit and glamour (her personality and fashion sense is awesome!), and Yahoo! Shine (that’s my first blogging home and the community always inspires me!)
8. If you could trade looks with any celebrity, dead or alive, whom would it be?
It would have to be Alicia Keys.  She looks gorgeous in anything she wears while maintaining that urban swagger.  A tomboy-turned-girly-girl can truly appreciate that!

Fall Desires: The Must Have List

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

Who else can’t believe that it’s the middle of August? And therefore THAT much closer to fall?  The good thing is that fall FASHIONS will now be more prevalent and this girl loves sweaters, jeans, boots, nice coats, and fall nail colors 😀  Let’s check out some must have items of the upcoming season, feel free to add some of your own!

Asos 2-in-1 Knitted Lace Dress $70.77

This dress is so pretty and girly, great for a fall date wouldn’t you say?  The touch of lace on the bottom does it for me, pair this with a long necklace and some boots,  I’d be ready to conquer the day.

Chic Suedette Wedges $27.80

These boots are SUPER cute!  They’d be great for work, weekend, a date, ANYTHING! Being a nice neutral grey helps in their versatility as well.  Must have! (They come in taupe and black as well)

Navy Studded Crossbody Bag $26

Navy is such an awesome color for the colder months.  The gold studs/hardware are so up my alley because they provide an amazing POP of detail for the eyes to feast on.  Lovely, right?

Suedette Ankle Bootie $34.80

undefined

Look at these beauties!! The heel is something serious, isn’t it?  Love them for a sexy fall date look or martinis with the girls after work.  What do you think?

Draped Knit Dress (the lbd) $32

undefined

Blue Denim-Knit Jeggings with Military Buttons $18

These jeggings have a cute military detail at the bottom of the legs that I can appreciate and as I said in my previous post, picking some pants that will stay ON will be a plus, so jeggings and leggings are total win.

Over the Knee Black Boots $68

Warm legs, warm feet, what’s not to fancy about some over the knee flat boots?  I could see these becoming a winter staple for sure!  Slide them over jeans/jeggings and wowza.

Vila Faux Fur Coat $101.10

This jacket is my favorite thing on the list.  I have wanted a cute fur/faux fur jacket for two winters now, must add one to the closet!  The imitation chinchilla look with the inner sleeve detail is beyond hot!  I’d rock that jacket so well *gazes adoringly*

This Tarte Palette has some amazing fall friendly colors, wouldn’t you say? $44 and LOOK at the chic purple case with the gold studs!!

Jessica Simpson “Fancy Nights” perfume because it’s supposed to be sexy and spicy, I love those types of fragrances for fall/winter!  It’s composed of warm notes of bergamot and Egyptian papyrus blended with Indonesian patchouli, Bulgarian red rose and night-blooming jasmine.

Talk About Motivation

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

Wanting to get skinny for fashion is no new ambition for many women; the motivating factor for slimming down is usually either for the clothes or for the men. Well hot darn, Asos has provided PRIME fashion reasons to get down all tiny and tight. I was browsing through the site randomly and stumbled upon their petite section which in itself is a total fashion coup for me because at 5’1, many clothing items (such as much coveted maxi dresses) would never fit my height because they were never INTENDED for my height. So how pleased was I to see that the petite line is for women 5’3 and under that includes maxi dresses in the bunch??? Someone please catch me, I think I’m swooning.

Everything on that site was OMG reaction after OMG reaction, feast your eyes on these must-get-in-shape-for dresses:

Image 1 of ASOS PETITE Exclusive Bodycon Embellished Colour Block Dress

And now for the ULTIMATE in sexy.  If this dress isn’t motivation to get my ass in gear so that I can be someone’s luscious arm/eye candy, then I don’t know what is.

What are some clothing items that you are just LUSTING after but can’t have for whatever reason?  Have any motivation pieces set to the side as an end goal (teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini perhaps)?

Pounds Gone…Pants Too??

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

As many of you know, I’ve been on a weight loss mission, trying to get down to a size 4 or 6, whatever looks right on my frame.  Well, so far about 20 lbs down since June 7th (go me!) and still working at many more being dropped.  BUT there’s an unfortunate side effect….what is that you ask?

MY CLOTHES ARE ALL FALLING OFF!!  What’s a girl to do when she’s trying to run to the train and must juggle a large laptop laden MJ tote bag, a handbag, in addition to now pulling up sagging pants?  I swear, any moment now I’ll have a visit from this guy:

Don’t get me wrong, clothes being too big is a great sign of accomplishment.  I could have WAY worse things to gripe about, right?  But it’s no fun to not be able to wear any of my CURRENT clothes and know that I can’t buy new pants because it wouldn’t make a lick of sense if I’m still losing weight, which would result in having to  then pull THOSE up in a couple of weeks as they make their descent to the ground.  Waste of money, and goodness knows times aren’t ripe for that.

Fear not, there is a solution for those with steadily slimming waistlines.  Leggings/jeggings, long tops, and dresses will be this girl’s best friend in the upcoming weeks.  Leggings mold to the body and will not try to embarrass me with a  pantsing in the middle of Michigan Avenue (can you IMAGINE the mortification?  Oprah would kick me out of Chicago for that one).  Flowy dresses can be comfortable and made more structural with the right belt.  A cute tunic or sweater dress over the leggings will prove to be a staple.  With those options, the fall wardrobe should be functional yet cute!

What are some of your fall must have items?    If you’ve gone through any significant weight loss, what were your transitioning clothing solutions?

SO FAR, SO CHIC – Miss Laura Wheat

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

Let’s meet the fabulously fun Laura Wheat, the brains behind SO FAR, SO CHIC which is a beauty, fashion, and lifestyle blog dedicated to all things, well, chic!

1. What is the first beauty-related memory that you have? What drew you to
beauty/makeup/fashion?
peel-off nail varnish, powder puffs and perfume. I also loved the sets of plastic
lipsticks you could get back in the day. The picture shows me, mum’s mascara
in-hand, having dragged a chair up to her chest of drawers in order to get my
paws on her makeup!
I always loved pretty ladies in frilly dresses and anything girlie. After seeing
flamenco dancers on holiday I asked my nan to make me a material flower to
wear in my hair. At Busch Gardens in Florida I wanted my picture taken with the
women wearing old-fashioned dresses as their costumes.
2. Name the celeb (dead or alive) that you would trade looks with and why.
There are loads of beautiful women who I admire. I love Joanna Lumley. Goldie
Hawn was absolutely gorgeous when she was young. I think Jessica Biel is
striking. Eva Mendes always looks amazing… But I wouldn’t want to trade looks
with anyone I don’t think – the thought scares me. Like plastic surgery that
makes you look like someone else! I’d rather just be me. I wouldn’t mind Jennifer
Aniston’s hot body though!
3. What’s your favorite makeup trend? Fashion trend?
I love black liquid liner flicked out in a chic cat’s eye. Sixties-inspired looks always
appeal to me, although pale lips rarely work in real life.
My favourite look to wear is a waisted dress with a skinny belt and heels. I’m
noticing a trend for retro-style sundresses at the moment, which is cool as I’ve
always loved that look. Eva Mendes always rocks a great retro frock! I
have a thing for narrow cropped-leg trousers and jeans. Very Audrey Hepburn.
4. What’s your least favorite makeup trend of all time? Least favorite fashion
trend?
I cannot understand why anyone would want a weirdly fake-tanned face. I just
don’t get it! I’ve no problem with fake tan but it needs to be subtle and enhancing,
not orange and ten shades darker than your normal skin colour! Orange faces
also seem to get paired with pale lips and frosted eyeshadows… Did I mention I
hate shimmery eyeshadow on the brow bone? Stop at the crease! Please stop at
the crease!
Fashion-wise, I can’t bear the recent batch of 80’s-inspired florals. I like proper
80’s prints on cotton dresses, but not these grim dusky pink patterns on
disgusting stretchy dresses and tops. They suit no-one! So unflattering.
(<–NOT Laura)
5. Quick, stuck with only one beauty item for the rest of your life, what would it
be? A specific lipstick, eyeshadow, liner, mascara, etc.
It would have to be mascara, because my lashes are so pale. I liked Clarins
Wonder Perfect Mascara until the tube went all clumpy on the outside. Clinique
mascaras are always good in my experience, also Dior Show, although it’s damn
expensive. I’ve never found a budget option that I’m happy with for thickening my
lashes. Answers on a postcard please…
7. What makeup brand is your favorite? What fashion brand is your favorite?
I like Laura Mercier for quality products and flattering colours. I use so many
other brands though, it’s difficult to just pick one.
The clothes I’d like to own aren’t really within my price range! Reiss always
has lovely pieces but it’s expensive. I like H&M for the surprise gems that
occasionally spring up in their shops.
8. Are you more a handbag girl? makeup girl? clothing?
All of the above! My absolute weakness has to be shoes though. I have so many
pairs and I cannot stop myself from buying more. There are always other pairs I
need for a particular look I’m envisaging! I used to ask mum if I could sleep with
new shoes next to my pillow and I still feel that kind of excitement when I get a
particularly fabulous pair.
9. What 3 words best describe your style?
Different every day.

Bourgie Buys

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

So in a previous post you guys commented and tweeted about your favorite low-cost yet effective drugstore finds.  This time around, with noses in the air, let’s get bourgie!  By that I mean, what are your snobby must have purchases, the designer skincare/makeup/hair products that you REFUSE to deviate to a lower cost item for?

For me, it’s perfumes.  I may have a body splash every now and again from Bath and Body Works, but best believe that the perfume game is on and proper 🙂  When I’m feeling happy and the sun is shining, I’ll break out with DKNY Red Delicious (smells of ripe sweet red apples, as you’d imagine by looking at it) or maybe Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue (clean fragrance with a touch of tartness). To exude quiet sophistication and femininity, I adore Prada Infusion d’Iris (a soft, light floral that begs to be worn on Park Avenue as a lady who lunches).   For pure sex appeal and feeling undeniably ravishing, I am a fiend for Dior Addict, truly addicted.  I was hipped to that scent by my girl JayBendy and have been hooked since first sniff.  Those are a couple of the many perfumes loitering my vanity.

So do tell, what are your snobby buys?  What MUST be designer, must be high end, MUST be top notch?  OR what are some high end items that you are just dying to have?  We’re waiting to hear, darling.

The Signature Piece

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

There is beauty in being remembered for a certain quality, such as having a signature fragrance that entices the senses and instantly brings you to mind when someone smells the aroma.  A signature could also be something like always wearing a scarf as an accent piece to an outfit, a hair color choice that becomes synonymous with you (platinum blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe), a penchant for a certain color (always have something red on) a certain style of dress (chic pencil skirts a staple in your wardrobe), maybe some makeup look that you are known for.

My signature pieces have changed over the years but have included Gucci Envy Me as a signature fragrance for a while and at another point one big ring like my swarovski Chic ring.

The question is do you have a signature piece, something that instantly makes others think of you when they see it?  A signature fragrance, a signature style, etc….please share in the comments!  I’m curious as to what makes you feel special when you put it on 🙂

You Stay Classy, M.A.C. and Rodarte

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]
The beauty blogosphere is all abuzz with anger over the new collection that MAC cosmetics. has created with fashion line Rodarte, and for good reason.  Truly, they have both taken the fashion world’s love of shock value to absolutely tasteless low depths.

Rodarte created a fall line inspired by the “ethereal landscape” they witnessed on a roadtrip in Texas, wanting to give ode to the border town that is Ciudad Juarez.  Fine, you took a nice trip and found some inspiration; nothing bad about that, surely?  Except…Juarez is known as the Murder Capital of the World, a title pumped up by the fact that more than 5,000 women have been kidnapped, raped, and killed as they make their way to work at the factories for the right to earn the oh so posh wage of roughly $4 a week.  These “femicides”, to add insult to injury, are largely going unpunished and barely causing a bit of concern from the authorities and government.  NOW, on top of everything, a fashion line and a beauty powerhouse decide that the misery and anguish of these poor women would make a FABULOUSLY CHIC idea for a clothing line and coordinating lipstick….oh wait, fashion wasn’t your first thought when you just read those facts about the devastating lives those women lead?  DISGUSTING

“But wait, Socialite Dreams, maybe they are doing this to raise awareness!  The funds could help out the citizens there.”  Dear reader, if you thought that, then you are CLEARLY light years above Rodarte or M.A.C. when it comes to basic humanity and ethics.  Only now that there has been controversy sparked over the lines has there been ANY thought to give “a portion” of the proceeds towards the atrocious crimes being committed there.  That’s right, a portion.  Even Viva Glam has ALL of it’s proceeds given to AIDS research, but maybe that’s because it happens to affect rich white people as well.  Mexican women being tortured, raped, kidnapped, mutilated, murdered?  PFFT, that’d make a hauntingly romantic idea for a line of makeup with products such as “Sleepless” “Ghost Town” “Juarez” in tribute to the women drifting to work like sleepwalkers so that they can be raped and killed along the way to their $4 paycheck.  Would make me a bit sleepless too, I’d imagine.  Oh, did I mention that the actual makeup looks like it is streaked in blood? No? Forgot to mention that macabre fact?  My bad.

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you.  Someone (well a bunch of someones honestly) thought that’d be a good idea.  So we have a deadly-for-women city that inspired some other freaking clueless privileged women into creating a fall fashion line that then paired them up with a beauty powerhouse that caters to women that in turn decided to create a mockery of their suffering.  Honestly, if they would NOT have created a “Special Edition 9/11 collection” with gorgeous colors like “Bodies on Fire” red lipstick, “Smoke Inhalation” grey eyeshadow, etc then they shouldn’t make a line about the suffering of these women.  Oh, I’m sorry, they are just some Mexican women, not white citizens of America or Europe, clearly don’t count as PEOPLE with loved ones who miss them.  Nope, just an inspiration for some makeup colors!  They were oh so INSPIRED by what they saw, but not INSPIRED enough to help by actually making the collection in order to raise awareness and money for the women of Juarez…mmkay!  You stay classy, M.A.C. and Rodarte.

I can’t even….There’s so much wrong with this, I just can’t…..if you’d like more information, please check out these other blogs who laid out the facts much more eloquently than I can even begin to do:
