Friend Friday

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

Modly Chic has come up with the great idea of having “Friend Friday” so that any bloggers who want to participate can join in discussions with each other and answer the same questions to connect with one another and interact while sharing views on sometimes light sometimes heavy topics such as blogger jealousy, nails, blogger privacy.  This is my first time participating but it will be a weekly blog activity.  The topic this week: Fall Fashions (readers, please answer the questions in the comment section, I’d love to see what your responses are!)

1. What new fashion trend are you looking forward to sporting this fall?

I’m seeing LOTS of fur and want to do that trend very much so.  I’ve always had a love affair for fur, faux or not, and I need to add some to my closet this upcoming season FINALLY.  To do that, the jacket that I talked about previously must become mine!  It’s perfect for me!

2. Which item in your closet is most likely to be your go-to transition piece?

Jeggings, definitely!  They are snug, cute, and able to go from summer to fall with ease.  Just throw a sweater dress or warmer type tunic with a belt over it, voila, fall!

3. What item from last year are you looking forward to reinventing this fall?
Hmm, good question….there isn’t a specific item that I’m looking forward to pulling out and making it work this season. I want to look forward to new stuff, lol. Hope to lose 20 more pounds and that will require new clothes!

4. What is your favorite part about this time of the year?

The fact that it’s still warm, but not HOT…cooler but not COLD and no snow.  Can wear boots, sweaters, cool jackets.  Oh I love it all!  The changing leaves with all of their glorious colors are definitely my FAVORITE part of Fall.

5. Will you be attending any fashion events this fall?

Hmm, not that I know of yet.  BUT just realized that I will be in New York during the exact time of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week soooooo Laura of So Far, So Chic and I need to figure out some shows to go to!

So what say you??  What are some fall trends that you are looking forward to?  Any item in your closet already that you can’t wait to remix?

Pounds Gone…Pants Too??

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]

As many of you know, I’ve been on a weight loss mission, trying to get down to a size 4 or 6, whatever looks right on my frame.  Well, so far about 20 lbs down since June 7th (go me!) and still working at many more being dropped.  BUT there’s an unfortunate side effect….what is that you ask?

MY CLOTHES ARE ALL FALLING OFF!!  What’s a girl to do when she’s trying to run to the train and must juggle a large laptop laden MJ tote bag, a handbag, in addition to now pulling up sagging pants?  I swear, any moment now I’ll have a visit from this guy:

Don’t get me wrong, clothes being too big is a great sign of accomplishment.  I could have WAY worse things to gripe about, right?  But it’s no fun to not be able to wear any of my CURRENT clothes and know that I can’t buy new pants because it wouldn’t make a lick of sense if I’m still losing weight, which would result in having to  then pull THOSE up in a couple of weeks as they make their descent to the ground.  Waste of money, and goodness knows times aren’t ripe for that.

Fear not, there is a solution for those with steadily slimming waistlines.  Leggings/jeggings, long tops, and dresses will be this girl’s best friend in the upcoming weeks.  Leggings mold to the body and will not try to embarrass me with a  pantsing in the middle of Michigan Avenue (can you IMAGINE the mortification?  Oprah would kick me out of Chicago for that one).  Flowy dresses can be comfortable and made more structural with the right belt.  A cute tunic or sweater dress over the leggings will prove to be a staple.  With those options, the fall wardrobe should be functional yet cute!

What are some of your fall must have items?    If you’ve gone through any significant weight loss, what were your transitioning clothing solutions?

You Stay Classy, M.A.C. and Rodarte

[tweetmeme source=”socialitedreams” only_single=false]
The beauty blogosphere is all abuzz with anger over the new collection that MAC cosmetics. has created with fashion line Rodarte, and for good reason.  Truly, they have both taken the fashion world’s love of shock value to absolutely tasteless low depths.

Rodarte created a fall line inspired by the “ethereal landscape” they witnessed on a roadtrip in Texas, wanting to give ode to the border town that is Ciudad Juarez.  Fine, you took a nice trip and found some inspiration; nothing bad about that, surely?  Except…Juarez is known as the Murder Capital of the World, a title pumped up by the fact that more than 5,000 women have been kidnapped, raped, and killed as they make their way to work at the factories for the right to earn the oh so posh wage of roughly $4 a week.  These “femicides”, to add insult to injury, are largely going unpunished and barely causing a bit of concern from the authorities and government.  NOW, on top of everything, a fashion line and a beauty powerhouse decide that the misery and anguish of these poor women would make a FABULOUSLY CHIC idea for a clothing line and coordinating lipstick….oh wait, fashion wasn’t your first thought when you just read those facts about the devastating lives those women lead?  DISGUSTING

“But wait, Socialite Dreams, maybe they are doing this to raise awareness!  The funds could help out the citizens there.”  Dear reader, if you thought that, then you are CLEARLY light years above Rodarte or M.A.C. when it comes to basic humanity and ethics.  Only now that there has been controversy sparked over the lines has there been ANY thought to give “a portion” of the proceeds towards the atrocious crimes being committed there.  That’s right, a portion.  Even Viva Glam has ALL of it’s proceeds given to AIDS research, but maybe that’s because it happens to affect rich white people as well.  Mexican women being tortured, raped, kidnapped, mutilated, murdered?  PFFT, that’d make a hauntingly romantic idea for a line of makeup with products such as “Sleepless” “Ghost Town” “Juarez” in tribute to the women drifting to work like sleepwalkers so that they can be raped and killed along the way to their $4 paycheck.  Would make me a bit sleepless too, I’d imagine.  Oh, did I mention that the actual makeup looks like it is streaked in blood? No? Forgot to mention that macabre fact?  My bad.

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you.  Someone (well a bunch of someones honestly) thought that’d be a good idea.  So we have a deadly-for-women city that inspired some other freaking clueless privileged women into creating a fall fashion line that then paired them up with a beauty powerhouse that caters to women that in turn decided to create a mockery of their suffering.  Honestly, if they would NOT have created a “Special Edition 9/11 collection” with gorgeous colors like “Bodies on Fire” red lipstick, “Smoke Inhalation” grey eyeshadow, etc then they shouldn’t make a line about the suffering of these women.  Oh, I’m sorry, they are just some Mexican women, not white citizens of America or Europe, clearly don’t count as PEOPLE with loved ones who miss them.  Nope, just an inspiration for some makeup colors!  They were oh so INSPIRED by what they saw, but not INSPIRED enough to help by actually making the collection in order to raise awareness and money for the women of Juarez…mmkay!  You stay classy, M.A.C. and Rodarte.

I can’t even….There’s so much wrong with this, I just can’t…..if you’d like more information, please check out these other blogs who laid out the facts much more eloquently than I can even begin to do:
