Reviews, Reviews: read all about it

Today my wonderful package of Sephora goodies came and I am ecstatic because I haven’t bought any new makeup in a long minute!  Added to my collection today were the following:

MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Invisible Cover Foundation

My skin is wonky, so a foundation with good coverage is totally necessary because I have dark spots that won’t seem to go away.  Yay for acne blemishes! 😦  The color is #177 and called cognac but I think that it may be a bit dark so I am going to the Sephora store tomorrow and testing out the Caramel and Amber colors 🙂  I like the coverage though, it is rich, creamy, and easily blended.   Below is a photo showing my skin with it on, little to no dark spots showing.  The foundation looks good with the camera flash and seems to match, but in person, it’s def darker than my chest and hands, etc.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Lipstick – Blue Red 205

This right here, is HEAVEN!! I reallllly like the MUFE lipstick.  It’s uber thick and luscious, long lasting (was a mofo trying to wipe off), and heavily pigmented.  And this pigment is PERFECTION for a red lip.  This lipstick is best applied with a lipstick brush and precision, two things that I didn’t bother with while applying just to test it out, lol.  In person it is a hint more cranberry than the color portrayed, richer.  Not sure why in the photos it doesn’t show true to life, but whattaya gonna do?  As well, blueish reds make the teeth’s white stand out, so that’s a win too!  You see those bad boys sparkling??:

SEPHORA COLLECTION Maniac Long Wearing Lipstick – 05

This lipstick turned out to be kind of 80s pink.  I’m an 80s girl through and through, but I’m not sure that I’ll keep it because it resembles VERY closely a Victoria’s Secret lipstick that I already have.  Now, if it actually looked like what it does in the photos which appears peachy pink, I’d love it and want to keep.  But as it stands, the color in person is definitely quite barbie.

SEPHORA COLLECTION Rouge Cream Lipstick – It Girl 06

This color is pretty fun, it’s like an orange coral.  Will be great in the summer with a gold and bronze eye and my Nars Taj Mahal blush.

So yay, fun lipsticks to get me through the spring and summer.  I want to buy up many more Make Up For Ever brand lipsticks, those are definitely now an hg (holy grail) brand and I highly recommend!

Now for a bit of hair/skin product fun:  Tropical Traditions was kind enough to send me a bottle of Coconut oil to try out and review.  Disclaimer: Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose.  Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.  It feels good and creamy when I mix it with my rosemary oil, aloe vera, and tea tree oil for a facial concoction.  As for my hair, I use it after my aloe grow spray to seal in the moisture and impart shine and it does the job well.  It doesn’t seem as greasy as the last coconut oil that I used, which is nice, but the smell of the other was better to me because it smelled like coconut macaroon cookies.  This doesn’t smell bad at all, smells like a cracked open coconut and FAINTLY of mayo (??).

Sucked in by Honeysuckle Rose

Okay, count me IN on the honeysuckle rose bandwagon!  This stuff is LUXE, so rich and creamy and smells delightful, not overpoweringly floral like I feared.  It smells like sweet candied roses, lol, whatever that would smell like.  I hate floral scents, so if I’m loving this, then it definitely is good!  lol

the great, natural ingredients are: coconut fatty acid cream base, aloe vera, shea butter, wheat germ oil, jojoba oil, honeysuckle oil and a host of other natural yummy for the hair things 😀    I added olive oil as well and sat with it on my hair under a shower cap for an hour while I watched something.

When I took the cap off, holy sweetness, it was so soft and lush!  Definitely definitely definitely like this conditioner!  Hopped my happy self into the shower to rinse it out then cowashed with my organix coconut conditioner.  I’ve been finding that when I rinse it out with water as cold as I can stand, that it really does make curls pop more, so I did that.  Applied Kinky Curly Knot Today and coconut oil, then sprayed with concoction that I made and talked about in previous post.  After that, it was experiment time where I tried out the new technique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mx9WhK-NY00

Results:   well, I don’t know….it’s okay.   Pretty much figured out that she and I don’t have the same type of hair, lol!  Mine does not look like hers, but ya know at least I tried something different. Pretty much an afro with some curlies popping somewhat, decent look, but I’ll stick to my twist outs or roller sets.  Just more my speed!  I used Fantasia IC gel instead of ecostyler and am glad that hair isn’t crunchy even though i used a truckload of gel.  I’ll probably wash this out in a couple of days and maybe roller set my hair since I bought new rollers today.

edit:  i look all of 12 years old in these pics, lmao….i swear, i’m of age and legal, for all you who may have naughty thoughts looking at me and my fro goodness and glasses 😛   It looks different in real life, looks better….i dont know why hair never shows up right in pics for me!

Great Moisture

Chicago winters are NO joke, with it’s icy strong winds and all.  My hair used to always be dry, regardless of season, but practically a dry bush in the winter!  NO MORE.  Going natural was the best thing I could do, simply because it kick started an INTEREST in my hair and its well being.  From stalking blogs to reading product ingredients, my hair is now THRIVING.  It’s thick and lush, soft and moisturized!  I can’t believe it, I’ve never felt my hair be soft and moisturized without being greasy from overloading on any old oil or grease that I got my hands on.  Now, I know that mineral oils and petroleum are NO good for me.  Luscious creams, butters, and virgin oils have my hair dancing with happiness 🙂

my dream team of products.

Now, thanks to natural hair blogs and good ole knowledge, I can see my hair flourish.  I cowash with olive oil and Organix conditioner, use Kinky Curly Knot Today as a leave in mixed with coconut oil, twist my hair with yummy blended beauty curl styling butter, then spray with either oyin frank juice or qhemet karkady tea mist the next days for added moisture.  And it’s perfect!  Now I’ve purchased the Amla and Olive Heavy Cream by Qhemet because it was on sale and the ingredients like castor oil, olive oil, and amla are divine for the hair! I can’t wait to add that to my arsenal as well.   You really don’t get how amazed I am at how soft and lush it feels 😀    So for you 4A ladies, especially in a cold Northern climate, check these products out if you want to retain delicious moisture!  What are your dream team products, kinky curly girls??

Got My Hair Done

Pampered my hair today and it felt oh so soft!  I cowashed with my Organix shea butter conditioner, detangled, then sectioned my hair into four and saturated it with olive and coconut oil, just poured lots in my hands and then smoothed onto my hair, root to tip.  Then I covered in two shower caps and my sleep bonnet.  While that was warm and feeling good on my head, I massaged my scalp periodically throughout the day.  I planned to do that in the morning and just rinse out and cowash again when my friend came to do my hair, so that’s what I did, and I ended up leaving that oil concoction on for about 6 hours while baking Christmas cookies and watching movies.

Once she came to do my hair, I cowashed with the Organix coconut conditioner (such a heavenly scent!  oh man, what a pleasure) and applied some Kinky Curly Knot Today as my leave-in.  Hair still wet, she put the back in rollers with blended beauty curl styling butter (I’ll give a review of this tomorrow when I take down the rollers, haven’t used it before, but thought that might be a good way to utilize it…hope so!)  and she braided the front with the Joie shea butter superlite that I talked about in my previous post.  So we’ll see how this all looks tomorrow!  here’s pics of the hair tonight:

Yay! New things galore

I’m a happy girl 🙂  Got the mail and my check was inside!  That took a weight off of my shoulders, can finish my little bit of xmas shopping and now have enough for my student loan payment Jan 4th…WOOO.  Not only that, of course with each check I have to go out and to the health food store for more hair products! lol, it’s a sickness, I know.  Bought $30 worth of stuff, 3 items:  Virgin coconut oil, Joie African Shea Butter Superlite, and Giovanni Direct Leave-In organic conditioner.    I will give product ratings once I try them out, will wash my hair on christmas eve so that it’s pretty and fresh for the holiday.

Then I got home and was relaxing, doorbell rang and VOILA, my beautiful accessories from forever 21!!!!  Yay, they all look so pretty 😀  Some of the headbands, well the sparkly silver one in particular, is so tight on my temples…will have to try to stretch that out a bit, can’t get a headache trying to be cute!  no ma’am, not this girl.  Here’s a photo show of my hair accessories like I said I would update 😀
